For the facelift, Dr. Sterry performed a full SMAS advancement in an effort to give her a smooth and tension-free result with scars that would heal well.

The SMAS layer is a connective tissue and fatty layer that lies just under the skin. By completely elevating and advancing this tissue superiorly, Dr. Sterry is able to change the architecture of the face. This also allows him to close the skin wounds without any tension at all, leading to a much more natural appearance postoperatively. The skin does not look "pulled," and the scars remain hidden.
