Liposculpture for Men
Before & After
Case Details
This is a 39 year old male patient of mine who wanted to refine his physique with liposculpture. He was already quite slender, but he wanted to have a little more defintion to his abdominal muscles and had seen another plastic surgeon who promised to inject fat in the area in order to create the illusion that he had a six pack. I don't typically like that idea for a number of reasons, but for right now, let's just say I think it runs the risk of looking fake - particularly if the patient gains some weight later in life. I thought this patient had very good (frankly, rock hard) abs, and I suggested we just try to show off what he already had.
Liposculpture is virtually identical to liposuction, but it breaks many of the rules we are all taught in Plastic Surgery Residency Training. In order to "carve" out the musculature, we need to suction fairly close to the skin surface - which is a big mistake in most classic liposuction cases. That's because you run the risk of making it look like someone tried to carve abs on the patient - which we are obviously doing, but don't want anyone to know!
In this guy, it seemed to work out pretty well. We are both quite satisfied with his results.
